The Facts about FranklinCovey and California's Proposition 8
Sarah Merz — CEO FranklinCovey Products LLC, a licensee of FranklinCovey Co.
Some of you may be aware that FranklinCovey has been included in lists circulating on the World Wide Web of companies to boycott as a protest to the recent passage of Proposition 8 in California. I understand the heartfelt feelings of many of our customers around the Proposition 8 issue and I am very respectful of our customers' wishes to act in accordance with their conscience and values. With that in mind, I hope that I can provide some additional useful information.
To begin with, FranklinCovey Products does not make political contributions as a matter of policy and did not donate any money to the Proposition 8 campaign in California. Also FranklinCovey Products is not owned nor operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Mormon Church).
FranklinCovey Products LLC is a worldwide organization with products offered in 147 countries and whose workforce reflects the cultural, ethnic, religious and political diversity of the communities in which they reside. We are headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah so some people have labeled us a "Mormon owned and operated" company, which is not the case.
I am the CEO of FranklinCovey Products LLC and am not a member of the Mormon Church. A valued member of our Executive Management Team is an openly gay man who is very active politically around issues important to him including Proposition 8. I mention these two points only to illustrate that the values of respect and inclusion are important to us and operate in our company every day. We recognize the vast diversity of our associates and honor their right to hold a broad range of viewpoints and advocate for things that are important to them.
I would like to assure our customers that FranklinCovey is an equal opportunity employer and has included sexual orientation in our affirmative action hiring statement for more than a decade. Our medical, dental, insurance and other benefits are extended to all employees and include domestic partners and their dependants.
FranklinCovey's offerings encourage all individuals and organizations to respect the differences in thoughts, beliefs and values of others and to respect the inherent worth, dignity potential and contributions of all people.
Thank you for your past business and my hope is that you will continue to find FranklinCovey Products a meaningful part of helping you to achieve the things most important to you.
Sincerely,
Sarah Merz
CEO, FranklinCovey Products
